El Dorado County Museum

El Dorado County is home to many enjoyments including the El Dorado County Museum in Placerville, California. It can be found at 104 Placerville Drive. The museum offers a tour regarding the history of California and most particularly this county. The county was founded on the Gold Rush becoming one of the busiest in the 1800s. Artifacts and family history can be researched at the museum. The exhibits offer an interpretation to the heritage of the county. Some of the displays date back to the Native Americans, though most are centered on the Gold Rush era.

The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday 10am to 4pm, Sunday 12pm to 4pm. The research house is only open on Tuesdays 9am to 3pm. The museum and research center can be closed on major holidays. Any school groups of ten or more must make reservations. The general public can come without reservations and make a small donation to help keep the museum running.

El Dorado County was important for ranching, fruit orchards, and vineyards. As a center for these businesses pioneers opened stores, businesses, and hotels to help keep the county running. Old Trails can still be seen near the museum and the wagons, carriages and surreys used at the time are in the museum.
