Moonstone Beach

Moonstone Beach is located in San Simeon Cambria California, as well as Trinidad. The beach runs along highway 1, offering miles of coastline for visitors to enjoy. Moonstone Beach is one of the most flat beaches in California. Other beaches along the coast have sand dunes, rocky shoreline and sandy stretches, but Moonstone is definitely without these accoutrements.

Moonstone runs along the west side of Highway One, offering magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean. On the other side of the highway are numerous hotels, galleries and restaurants. What is different about Moonstone Beach is that it is not made of sand. Instead, it is made of tiny, smooth pebbles. Moonstone, agates or jade can be found amongst the pebbles. Many come to Moonstone to search the pebbles for these finds.

There is a boardwalk that connects Moonstone Drive to Leffingwell Landing Boat Ramp. It is roughly .75 miles each way. Additionally Moonstone is thought to be a surfing beach. However, its location and waves require only experienced surfers to use it. The water is ice cold, and lifeguards are not often around in the off season. Visitors who want a walk on a beach will find Moonstone entertaining.
