Ohlone Regional Wilderness

The Ohlone Regional Wilderness is a scenic range of trails, green hills and meadows, and falls that are located in Livermore, California. Hiking through this region is popular with a six hour hike on foot to Murietta Falls. The hike can be treacherous and recommendations from the field rangers are that hikers be in shape before taking on this adventure.

The hike throughout the wilderness is approximately thirteen miles of up and down terrain. Weather in the region can become scorching hot with high temperatures during the day and cooler temperatures at night. It is recommended that hikers pack plenty of water to accommodate hydration needs. Rattlesnakes are also common to see throughout the hike. Hiking boots are advised as well as a first aid kit.

Throughout the wilderness area, lots of wildlife may be seen. Hikers pack their camera to take amazing shots of wildlife and the views of the bay. It is not uncommon to see eagles, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, hawks, vultures, and a wide variety of rabbits and field mice. Guide books can be purchased at the park kiosk and are recommended to not miss the Falls and mountain peaks of Mount Diablo and that of Mount Rose.
