Stream Profile Chamber

Stream Profile Chamber can be found at Highway 89 Camp Richardson, South Lake Tahoe, California. Stream Profile Chamber is a trail that begins at Taylor Creek Visitors Center. It leads visitors right to the profile chamber, which is below ground at the creek. The chamber has floor to ceiling glass bay windows in order to show fish and other marine life in natural surroundings. The most important time to visit is in October to see the Kokanee Salmon spawning. They swim up the creek as far as possible before laying their eggs. Later in spring the eggs will hatch, creating another large set of salmon to see. Hundreds, even thousands of salmon can be seen at this time.

The salmon bring mammals in the surrounding forest to come and feed. Birds, bears, and other wildlife can be spotted along the trail or near the creek. When visiting the visitor center guests should take the hour to spend at the Stream Profile Chamber. The entire family will enjoy the experience. The walk is short and the chamber makes it warm, even in the cooler months. Photographers will find plenty of landscape and wildlife to capture on digital media.
