Laguna Niguel Regional Park

Laguna Niguel Regional Park, located at 28241 La Paz Rd., in Laguna Niguel, CA, encompasses 80 acres of greenspace surrounding a 44-acre lake.

Originally, Laguna Niguel Park belonged to a ranch granted to Juan Avila in 1842 by the Mexican government. He was known as one of the finest rancheros in the area. The land later passed through various owners, and in 1971 the Laguna Niguel Corporation donated acreage to build a regional park, which was opened for public use shortly thereafter.

Fishermen will find the lake stocked regularly with bass, blue gill, catfish year round, and trout during winter months. The park, a total of 236 acres, contains a large assortment of trees, under some of which are picnic tables with sinks and barbecue pits; these are available for group reservation. Additionally, the park's amenities include a 2-mile jogging trail, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, and an area well suited for flying remote-controlled aircraft.

By car, Laguna Niguel Regional Park is located one hour south of Los Angeles International Airport along the coast. Nearby sites include Orange County Natural History Museum and the larger Aliso and Wood Canyons Regional Wilderness Park. It is just a 15-minute drive from Laguna Beach as well.
