Luther Burbank Home and Gardens

The Luther Burbank Home and Gardens was created by the famed horticulturist Luther Burbank and served as his living space, greenhouse, and gardens for the majority of his 50 year career. Today, the home and gardens are part of a city park located at Santa Rosa and Sonoma Avenues in the city of Santa Rosa. Guests can visit the park and learn about the life of Burbank through a self-guided tour. There are more than an acres worth of gardens that include walnuts, cactus and fruit trees. Many of Burbank's cutting flowers, medicinal herb, rose, ornamental grass and wildlife habitat gardens are still a part of the park. Plants are labeled with both their common and botanic names so visitors can recognize familiar plants like Love Lies Bleeding, PapPaw, and Cupid's Dart among the collections. The Carriage House Gift Shop and Museum is open during the spring, summer, and fall months. The museum features an exhibit about Burbank's Cedar of Lebanon. This tree was planted by him in 1893 and grew over his home for more than a century. He was buried beneath the tree when he died in 1926. The tree was removed in 1989 because it had become diseased, but lives on in many of the traditions of the community. The gift shop features a collection of items including books, gifts and educational materials.
