Sespe Creek


Sespe Creek is a natural creek in Ojai, California. Visitors to the creek are able to visit the swimming holes, fish and get some exercise when they hike the 3.5 mile round trip trail which is well maintained and will take approximately 2 hours to complete.

The creek is over 31-miles through narrow canyons and valleys in the Los Padres National Forest. It is formed by over 30 tributary streams, and then empties into the Santa Clara River. The creek is a National Scenic Waterway. There are many fish in the creek include the California condor which as been re-introduced into the Sespe Condor Sanctuary from a breeding program at the San Diego Zoo. Other fish that have been introduced into the creek include; Fathead Minnow, Black Bullhead, Green sunfish and Golden Shiner.

To access the creek visitors will need to drive up and over part of the freeway which is known as the grapevine and runs along California's coastal artery. The creek provides avid kayakers with a great place to participate in their sport.

The best time to visit Sespe Creek is during the fall, winter and spring; the trails are popular with many people, from hikers, bike riders and horse riders as it is an easy hike.
