Remarks: SHORTLY AFTER ROTATION AT 15 FEET AGL, BIRDS CAME OUT OF GRASS (4-6" TALL) ALONG RWY ABOUT 1000' PAST TWY A. #1 ENG FLAMED OUT. AS THE GEAR WAS BEING RETRACTED THEY HIT ANOTHER FLOCK WHICH CAUSED THE #2 ENG RPM TO ROLL BACK. PILOTS WERE UNABLE TO SUSTAIN AIRSPEED & ALTITUDE & CRASH LANDED, SLIDING UNDER THE AIRPORT FENCE, THRU A DITCH, CROSSED A ROAD AND ENDED IN A CORN FIELD. NO FIRE BUT MAJOR STRUCTURAL DMG BEYOND ECONOMICAL REPAIR. BOTH PILOTS WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND TREATED FOR MINOR INJURIES. CLE FSDO IS INVESTIGATING. REMAINS COLLECTED FROM RWY AND BOTH ENGS.
