Remarks: DURING LANDING FLARE, FOLLOWING COMPETATIVE FLIGHT OF A SANCTIONED AEROBATIC CONTEST, THE A/C STRUCK A HAWK. THE IMPACT THREW IT THROUGH THE PROPELLER COVERING THE LT SIDE OF THE A/C WITH REMAINS. TYPE OF BIRD DETERMINED BY ARPT SECURITY WHO REMOVED THE REMAINS OF THE BIRD FROM THE RWY TO AVOID IT ATTRACTING BUZZARDS. THE IMPACT CAUSED NO DMG TYO THE PROP BLADE AND THERE WAS NO PERCEPTIBLE DROP IN RPMS.

Remarks: PILOT NOTICED WOOD PIECES & FEATHERS COMING INTO THE COCKPIT THRU THE OPEN CANOPY AND AN EXTREME VIBRATION ENSUED THRUOUT THE A/C. PILOT SHUT THE ENG DOWN AND PERFORMED AN EMERGENCY LDG IN A PASTURE. A/C HIT A SHALLOW DITCH WHICH WAS OBSCURED BY TALL GRASS. THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED, RT WING SPAR BENT AFT AND THE FIREWALL BUCKLED. NTSB INVESTIGATED. NO REMAINS WERE COLLECTED. PILOT REPORTS HITTING THE BIRD WHILE FLYING OVER A GARBAGE DUMP AND SAW WHITE FEATHERS. PHOTOS. Do you have an airport diagram showing Taxiway Alpha and Taxiway A3? Taxiway Alpha north of Taxiway A3 will be used during LSA Expo 2012 as Runway 17/35.
