Remarks: PLANE WAS HIT BY A HAWK WHILE ON DOWNWIND FOR LDG. BIRD CRASHED THROUGH PASSENGER SIDE OF WINDOW, HITTING THE INSTRUCTOR & CREATED DRAG WHICH THE ENG WAS UNABLE TO OVERCOME. MINOR INJURIES TO PILOT, CUTS FROM GLASS. INSTRUCTOR'S VISION WAS IMPAIRED BY BLOOD IN HIS EYES. HE APPLIED FULL POWER BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE & LANDED IN A FIELD PERPENDICULAR TO THE FURROWS OF A TOMATOE FIELD. AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER IN SOFT GROUND. DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. PILOT COLLECTED REMAINS FOR SOUVENIR. NTSB LAXxxCAxxx MENTIONED REMAINS OF LARGE HAWK WERE FOUND IN THE BACK OF THE COCKPIT. PHOTO. (DATA ENTRY NOTE: UNABLE TO OBTAIN ID AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT PILOT).
