California Scenario

California Scenario is a sculpture located at 611 Anton Boulevard, Costa Mesa, California. It is near South Coast Plaza, a shopping district known for its posh and elegant stores. The sculpture area is open from 8am to midnight with no admission required. The sculpture was created by Isamu Noguchi. He started work on it in 1980, finishing it in 1982. Noguchi was a prominent Japanese American sculptor working mostly in architecture.

He's a native of California. The design for California Scenario was based on the landscape of California. Basically the bottom of the sculpture is made of rock with a small creek running through it. There is a sand area representing the desert, along with some trees, and other native foliage. In other sections there are triangle creations of various colors and looks. There are some rocks in the sculpture as well. California Scenario is a place people can go to hang out and relax. It is meant to be a reflective place with a bench, trees, and plenty of seclusion. Many people tend to eat lunch in this area if they work at the plaza, especially at the cooler times of year when it isn't too hot out.
