Cowell Ranch State Park

Cowell Ranch State Park and John Marsh State Historic Park are 4,000 acres of natural habitat in Half Moon Bay, California. The park helps protect the natural habitats as well as wildlife. Cultural features like John Marsh House are protected by the state for visitors to come and see. The efforts of local citizens made sure the house and the land would remain protected, as well as be available for the public. The park was formed in 2007 when the recreation commission finally classified it as a historic location.

Park planning has worked to get roads into the park, while protecting the land around the roads. The house has undergone some treatment as well to keep it in great shape. Tours are welcome throughout the year, though the house may not be open except on weekends. From the park there is beach access, which offers a view of the ocean from a bluff. There are also several miles of trail and a scenic drive for visitors to take. As a recreational area it is possible to enjoy water sports, volley ball and other activities. There is a small fee to get into the state park on a daily basis.
