Eagle Falls - Lake Tahoe, California - Cascading Water near Emerald Bay

Best viewed in late spring or early summer when the waters are plentiful, Eagle Falls offers visitors two beautiful waterfalls in one location at the south end of Lake Tahoe. A quarter of a mile from the Eagle Falls Picnic Area, Upper Eagle Falls can be seen, dropping about 20 feet to its collecting pool.

Even more spectacular is Lower Eagle Falls, about a one-mile hike from Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay. It features two separate cascades, one of 60 feet, followed by a second of 90 feet.

A steel footbridge leads directly past the front of Lower Eagle Falls. This makes an excellent vantage point for photography as well as a good rest stop along the way. The altitude here is about 6,600 feet, and the trail varies from flat to steep in places, rated "moderate'' in degree of difficulty by the Forest Service.

The trail leading to the falls starts from the parking lot of the Eagle Falls Picnic Area at Emerald Bay State Park, just off Highway 89. A $5 per vehicle parking fee is charged. Please note that no dogs are allowed on the trail.
