Eagle Falls Trail

Eagle Falls Trail in Tahoe City, California is just one hiking trail in Donner State Park. The trailhead to Eagle Falls starts at 8.5 miles from South Lake Tahoe. It is almost opposite the entrance of Emerald Bay State Park, which also provides access to the trail. The park is known for its shoreline where there is a replica of a Viking Castle and views of Fannette Island. Parking is at the trailhead, though it is a fee of $5. It can be reached by taking CA 89 or through the main highway.

The hike has a couple of areas visitors can hike to. Eagle Falls and Eagle Lake are the first points of interest, but the trail can also continue up to Upper Velma Lake. Eagle Falls is a small waterfall that runs along Eagle Creek. This point is less than .2 miles from the beginning of the trailhead. There are stone stairs leading to the footbridge that allows visitors to see over the falls. The rest of the hike takes visitors into the Desolation Wilderness with a steep climb through woodland up .7 miles to the junction that leads towards Eagle Lake. It is an hour to Upper Velma Lake on Eagle Falls Trail.
