Golden State Theatre

Golden State Theatre is located at Alvarado Street in Monterey, California and is approximately two hour's drive from San Francisco. This cinema was built in the style of a Moorish castle and was opened in August 1926, at the time making it the largest theatre between San Francisco and Los Angeles. After many years of changes to the style of the theatre it has been restored to its previous 1920s glory.

Visitors to the theatre will now be able to experience live performances and watch films with the auditorium and stage fully restored. Live music, comedy and movies are amongst some of the events held here as well as an annual international film festival. One of the highlights of the place is the Wurlitzer organ and although it is not the original housed in the theatre, it was built in 1928 and is virtually identical t its predecessor.

The theatre now has 1,000 seats, a good sized stage, dressing rooms and spacious lobby/mezzanine areas. This makes it a good venue to rent for corporate events and presentations with film, video and computer display projection available. Sunday morning services with the Monterey Church are held in the theatre at 9am and 11am.
