Gourmet Detective

Gourmet Detective is a murder mystery dinner show at The Avila Terrace Theatre located on Main Street in Riverside, California. The theater/restaurant is located across the Downtown Mall walk from the Mission Inn and directly upstairs of The Tamale Factory Restaurant. The entrance is to be found on the Mall walk side of the building facing the Mission Inn.

Started in 1990, Gourmet Detective offers guests the chance to enjoy a fine meal while participating in a murder mystery play. The characters of the play also serve the dinner, at which point the diners can ask them questions and try and solve the mystery. The performances are professionally scripted and combine murder mystery with a touch of comedy and live music.

The three course dinner and the four act mystery are available on Fridays and Saturdays with the bar open from 7.15pm, although additional performances are given on some public holidays. The venue at Riverside can accommodate up to 100 guests but there is also a traveling show that can perform at larger venues for up to 180 people. The entire evening's entertainment usually lasts between two and three hours with the performance starting at 8pm.
