Jimmy Carter Library and Museum


The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum was named for President Jimmy Carter. The museum is located at 441 Freedom Parkway, Atlanta Georgia. Museum hours are Monday through Saturday 9am to 4:45pm; Sunday 12pm to 4:45pm. The library hours for research are Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. The library is closed on Saturday and Sunday. There is a restaurant at the museum open Monday through Friday 11:30pm to 2:00pm. The library and museum is run by the National Archives and Records Administration, which is part of the Presidential Libraries Act of 1955.

The building that houses the library and museum was designed by Jova, Daniels and Busby, a local group, as well as Umemura, Lawton, and Yamamoto of Honolulu. The project began in 1984 taking until 1986 to complete. Funds of $26 million were raised for the complex. The building is 69,750 square feet with 15,269 square feet of meeting area and 19,818 square feet for the collection and storage. About 27 million papers exist in the archive from Jimmy Carter's time in the White House. There are also .5 million photographs, film, video tapes, and audio tapes on file at the museum and library for guests to examine.
