Lake Cuyamaca

Lake Cuyamaca is located in the heart of Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. Sitting at 4600 feet in elevation, it is the only lake whose conditions allow for the stocking of trout year round.

At 110 acres, this small lake provides visitors with serene wilderness and a number of outdoor activities in which to participate. Fishermen will find the lake stocked with over 44,000 pounds of fish each year, including trout, bass, catfish, crappie, bluegill, and sturgeon. Each Saturday children can participate in a free fishing class which begins at 10:00 a.m. Cuyamaca Rancho State Park has recorded various catches of large fish from Lake Cuyamaca, the largest of which on record was a sturgeon measuring 55 inches and over 42 pounds.

Motor boat and paddle boat rentals are available at Lake Cuyamaca. In addition, the lake has 40 RV sites, 14 camp sites, and two cabins. Not too far from the lake within the State Park boundaries, visitors will find a museum, over 160 campsites, nature programs, campfire gatherings, and geocache trails.

Lake Cuyamaca is located 55 miles northeast of San Diego International Airport. The lake is only a short drive from several campgrounds as well as the California Wolf Center and the Julian Pioneer Museum
