Considered one of the most efficient and technologically advanced centers of its kind, the Los Angeles Convention Center is a popular destination for event planners throughout the country. The building is architecturally impressive, featuring a steel and glass design and housing exhibit halls, lobbies and meeting rooms. There are 720,000-square feet of exhibition space and nearly 150,000-square feet of meeting space. The meeting rooms are located along a concourse hallway, making access easy for those moving from room to room, as they would during a seminar or class instruction. The center opened in 1971, but was originally much smaller. It was expanded in 1993 and 1997 and now houses a 299 seat theatre. There is onsite parking for just over 5,500 vehicles. The lobby areas are spacious and bright, welcoming visitors to the center and giving them a gathering area to prepare for the events ahead. The full-service business center is an option for those needing computer use, printing, faxing, and copying services. Convention planners have access to onsite full-service catering for their event. Menus are ethnically diverse, allowing planners to carry their theme of their event throughout all aspects. In addition to food, the catering staff can provide specialy linens, decorating, presentations, and cakes and bakery items. The convention center also acts as a resource during regional disasters and emergencies, and the center staff is trained to support L.A. area residents.
