Museum of Contemporary Art and the Geffen Contemporary

MOCA or Museum of Contemporary Art and the Geffen Contemporary in Los Angeles, California were opened in 1979. They have also opened another facility and building in 2010. The museum is the only one dedicated only to contemporary art. The concept for the museum collects, preserves, and presents work from 1940 to the present. All types of media are used in the work, thus offering a well rounded education for those who attend MOCA.

The museum has more than 5,000 pieces in their collection, with steady growth each year. With three facilities including the MOCA Grand Avenue, MOCA Pacific Design Center and Geffen Contemporary at MOCA there is plenty for a visitor to learn about and study. Hours do vary from building to building, but the Geffen Center is open Monday 11am to 5pm, Thursday 11am to 8pm, Friday 11am to 5pm, and Saturday and Sunday 11am to 6pm. They close on major holidays like Thanksgiving.

Admission is $10 for general attendants and $5 for students or seniors. The museum also offers a variety of events to help residents participate in the museum and what it stands for. There are also travel programs one can join.
