Railtown 1897 State Park


Railtown 1897 State Park is located in Jamestown, California and allows visitors a chance to experience the railroading history of the area. Visitors will find the museum at the corner of Second and I Streets in Old Sacramento. The museum is home to one of the country's last operating roundhouses. The roundhouse has been featured in numerous television and movie productions, earning the nickname of "The Movie Railroad". Visitors may recognize the building and cars from movies and television programs such as Back to the Future 3, Petticoat Junction and High Noon. Tours are available on the weekends from April through October, as well as later in the fall and holiday season. Photography is welcome in the museum. Visitors can browse the shops in Jamestown and enjoy touring the Roundhouse. Some temporary metered parking is available near the Roundhouse in Old Sacramento and all-day parking is available in the nearby public garage. Guided tours are offered of the Roundhouse and museum, as well as film screenings about railroad history. Guests can also choose souvenirs from their visit at the Museum Store. Old Sacramento is a great area in which to spend the day, so following your museum tour you can enjoy dining at one of the area restaurants or just take in the heritage of the town.
