Ross Ranch is a family owned horse riding business based at Philo Greenwood Road in Mendocino, California. Beach or mountain forest rides are offered and usually start out at 10am, 12noon and 2pm each day. All rides are guided by the owners with groups of up to 11 people permitted, although this should include a maximum of two children under the age of 10.
Horses are carefully picked to match the riders' abilities and each group guide will provide instruction on how to handle and ride them. The beach ride takes the group to the Elk Coast and the wet packed sand of Manchester Beach. These rides will take approximately two hours and guests are requested not to wear shorts or open toed footwear.
The other rides take visitors along the trails of the Ross Ranch down roads and through tall redwood trees. These private trails offer great views of the valleys and forests below and pass by canyons, creeks and a river. After a couple of hours of horse riding, visitors may wish to dine somewhere nearby and the Sea Ranch Lodge Restaurant on Highway 1 is probably the nearest.
