San Juan Bautista State Historic Park

San Juan Bautista State Historic Park located in San Juan Bautista, California is nationally recognized as a historic landmark. A portion of the area is part of the 15th Spanish Era Mission- San Juan Bautista. At the park one can see what was once Town Square. Today it is just a plaza. It is also one of the largest towns in central California now and in prior history.

Each year visitors moving from north to south or vice versa in California will stop at the State Historic Park. They come to see the remnants of the Spanish Mission and artifacts of Native American peoples. With Native American, Spanish, and Mexican cultural influences the land has quite a bit to remind us about. Also at the site are markers to discuss the 19th century and American settlers that moved from east to west in search of a better life and gold.

The state park is open on Tuesdays through Sundays from 10am to 4:30pm. It is never open on Mondays. Self guided tours are possible and a donation to the park for upkeep is appreciated. The park has buildings dating to the 1800s including the Plaza Hotel, Zanetta House, and Plaza Stables.
