Six Flags Magic Mountain - Valencia, California - Six Flags amusement park and entertainment center

Opened in 1971 under the name Magic Mountain, Six Flags Magic Mountain is a family amusement park that's part of the Six Flags chain of parks. The park has over 50 rides and covers 260 acres in California along Interstate 5. This park was opened under the idea that it would be more thrilling than both Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farms, the reigning amusement parks in this area.

Six Flags Magic Mountain has a unique system for rating rides, which can help guests figure out what attractions are best for them. The ratings are in the form of green, yellow, and red buttons, which signify mild, moderate, and max, respectively. Mild rides are great for families, while moderate rides are a little more thrilling and max rides are best for those who want to scream. The park also offers a Flash Pass, which is a way to reserve a spot in line ahead of time. This system is similar to the system Disney parks use to help guests avoid waiting in long lines.

The park has a number of kids rides, focused specifically on younger guests. Many of these attractions have no height limits if the child rides with an adult, and some, including Tweety's Escape and The Looney Tunes Lodge, are available to children of all ages, even without an adult rider. Other rides in this area include Thomas the Tank Engine, Pepe Le Pew's Tea Party, the Merrie Melodies Carousel, and Elmer's Weather Balloons. The family section of the park has additional rides that children and adults can enjoy together. Some of these rides do have height requirements, and they may fall into the "moderate'' ranking. Rides in this area include the Canyon Blaster, Daffys Adventure Tours, the Grand Carousel, the Jet Stream, Sandblasters, the Roaring Rapids, and Yosemite Sam's Sierra Falls. As is apparent by their names, a number of these rides are water-based and riders may get wet.

Six Flags Magic Mountain has thrill rides as well for older children and adults. One of the most popular park rides is The Riddler's Revenge, which is the world's tallest stand-up roller coaster. Other roller coasts in the park include Batman: The Ride, Superman: The Escape, the Colossus, D,ja vu, the Goldrusher, Goliath, Ninja, Revolution, the Scream, Terminator Salvation: The Ride, Tatsu, Viper, and X2. There are also a few other thrill rides, including Thrill Shot, which shoots riders high into the air, and Dive Devil, the park's 15-story free-fall skydiving ride. Extra fees apply for some of the thrill rides.

Along with rides, the park has a number of concerts, shows, and other attractions every summer. On a daily basis, guests can see shows such as Bugs Bunny and Friends, CSI Live, Mat Hoffman's Danger Defying Daredevils, and Kid Karaoke. There's also a Looney Tunes Beach Bash parade, which is help on weekends during the summer.

During the summer, Six Flags Magic Mountain is open from 10:30 AM to 10:00 PM daily. They have slightly shorter hours during the rest of the year and are closed most weekdays during the off-season. Tickers cost $53.99 for adults and $29.99 for children, but there are discounts available for those who purchase tickets online or purchase a large number of tickets for a group.
