Surfing Heritage Foundation


The Surfing Heritage Foundation of San Clemente, California is a non-profit organization. It preserves, presents, and promotes surfing history through an appreciation and education for all generations. They focus on history and the development of surfing into the culture it is today. They also work to present a number of important exhibits such as sports equipment, lifestyle, and cultural stories. Fundraising is one way they are able to promote the Surfing Heritage Foundation.

The foundation is located at 110 Calle Iglesia, San Clemente, California. They are open Monday through Saturday for business 9am to 5pm. The surf museum is open Monday through Saturday from 1pm to 4pm. Groups must request an appointment to tour the museum.

Surf craft, prints, oral histories, photos, cinematography, art, and surfing memorabilia are all on display at the museum. One of the top exhibits of the gallery is the surfboard collection. They have over 50 different surf boards on display. These boards range in size, make, and material to show the history of the board and how it has changed. Some of the boards are from Hawaii and others are native to California shops. There is a display of surf boards for almost every year the sport has been in the US.
