The Marsh

The Marsh is a theater, where performers try something new rather than recreating older plays and performances on the stage. The mission of the Marsh is to develop new performances and encourage all stages to use new artistic talent in order to provide audiences with entertainment. The Marsh is a community where artists reach audiences through new ideas, creative processes, and skill.

The Marsh began with Stephanie Weisman and her first collaborator Peggy Howe. In 1989, the team began Monday Night Performances at the Hotel Utah. They then moved to Morty's in North Beach and also Café Beano. Roughly 150 performances are given at the Marsh each year. In 1992, the current theater home was built. In 1996 a 12,000 square foot building was purchased in order to extend the Marsh.

Tickets for performances can be found online, by phone, or at the box office. The box office is open seven days a week from 3:30pm to 10pm. Seating is based on a first come first serve basis, meaning you can choose a seat anywhere in the theater, as long as you have a ticket. Nearby the Marsh are several restaurants for a meal before an evening performance.
