Upright Citizens Brigade Theater


The Upright Citizens Brigade Theater was founded by Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh. The Upright Citizens Brigade opened in Hollywood in July 2005at 5919 Franklin Avenue. The theater has 95 seats and offers improve and standup comedy shows seven nights a week. The theater group has several famous alumni who have went on to star and write for shows including Saturday Night Live, The Office, The Daily Show, 30 Rock, Best Week Ever, David Letterman, and Best Week Ever.

The group also runs an improve training center where aspiring comics come in to learn the art of improve. Students learn the basics of long form improvisation and how to work with a group of actors in scenes requiring group collaboration. The core improve courses include Improv Basics, Game of the scene, Harold Structure, and Harold Structure continued. The UCB also offer a sketch writing program which introduce students to sketch writing as well as how to assemble a Maude packet. Advanced classes teach students how to write in formats like Saturday Night Live, one person shows and sketch comedies. Courses usually consist of eight, three hour classes and cost $350-$375 per level.
