Football in America is called soccer. It is the third most played team sport in the country, with about 13 million Americans playing soccer. A lot of American people, as the others in the world love to watch European championships. In spring 2015, the number of people in America who watched European soccer amounted to 15.92 million within a period of 12 months, according to Statista.com. The number of European soccer TV viewers in autumn 2014 was 14.05 million compared to 13.97 million in spring 2014. About 15.26 million TV viewers watched European soccer in autumn 2013, and the number of people who watched Euro soccer in spring was 15.04 million. The number of viewers who watched European soccer in autumn and spring 2012 were 14.56 million and 14.74 million accordingly. In autumn 2011 the number of TV viewers was 14.82 million.

Growing revenues of fitness clubs

The United States of America is a well-known fitness country. In 2014, more than 54 million American people belonged to at least one of the 34,460 health clubs nationwide. The number of health clubs and fitness centers in the country is growing each year. The total number of gyms in 2013 was 32,150, compared to 30,500 in 2012. There was a slight increase from 2009 to 2011: from 29,750 to 29,960. Healthy and active living is inspiring; more and more people are buying memberships at gyms. The number of membership at fitness centers and health clubs is growing also: it was 54.1 million people in 2014, up from 52.9 million people in 2013.

Pets are best friends and therapists for American people

Everyone loves pets. Even pets love pets! According to research published at Statista.com, the most popular pet in the country are freshwater fish – in 2015, a total of 95.5 million freshwater fish lived in American households as pets. Cats took second place, with 85.8 million living as pets. Dogs, man’s best friends, made up 77.8 million. Birds were also popular, with 14.3 million living as pets. There were also 12.4 million small animals and 9.5 million saltwater fishes who lived as pets in households in the United States. Reptiles were chosen as pets by 9.3 million households. Last but not least were horses: 7.5 million pets.

United States of tattoos – The art of pop culture

According to Statista.com, the number of people wearing tattoos is growing each year. In 2012, 21 percent of Americans had one or more tattoos. In comparison, the total rates of tattooed people in 2003 and 2008 were 16 percent and 14 percent respectively. If we examine the rate by gender, it is interesting to note that female respondents are tattooing their bodies more actively in recent years. In 2012, about 23 percent of women had one or more tattoos, compared to 19 percent of men. In 2008, 13 percent of female respondents and 15 percent of male respondents were tattooed. The percentages of tattooed males and females in 2003 were 16 and 15 percent accordingly.

Growing popularity of online dating services

Online dating in the United States is becoming more and more popular, especially for young people aged between 25 and 34: 28 percent of American dating site users belonged to this age group. During a 2014 survey it was found that 22 percent of dating site users were aged between 18 and 24. The number of dating site users between 35 and 44 years old and between 45 and 54 years old were both 18 percent. About 11 percent of dating site users fell in the 55 to 64 age group, and 4 percent were older than 65.

Digital music revolution – easiest way to listen to music

Every day millions of Americans download music over the Internet. With more than 70 authorized digital music services in the country, it is easier than ever to download and listen to music anywhere. In 2014, 56.34 million people downloaded music, and over 115 million of people used streaming services. In 2015 the numbers increased to 65.63 million downloaders and almost 130 million streaming users. The forecast suggests that in 2016 the total number of Americans who download music will be around 65.44 million, while the number of streaming users is expected to grow to 140.48 million people.

Unemployment rate in America: numbers and predictions

The rate of unemployment in the United States is an important economic factor affected by global competition, education and demographics. The unemployment rate in 2014 was 6.2 percent, decreasing from 7.4 percent in 2013. Since 2010 (9.6 percent) the rate of unemployment in America decreased slightly. Thus, the rate was 8.9 percent in 2011 and 8.1 percent in 2012. Notably, the highest rate of unemployment in 20 years was recorded in 2010.

The most important problems in 2015

The United States is a multiethnic country with a diverse society. As one of the most influential counties in the world, it faces a wide range of social problems and hot topics. According to information published by Statista, the most important problem in the United States in 2015 was the public’s dissatisfaction with the government – 17 percent of respondents named this issue as the most important. About 15 percent stated that the country’s economy in general as the biggest problem in America, while 12 percent said that immigration and illegal aliens were the most important. According to 8 percent of the surveyed Americans, the biggest problem in the country was unemployment and jobs. The issues of ethics, religious decline and racism were named by 7 percent of respondents.

American thoughts on gun ownership

As we previously discussed, the issue of gun ownership is one of the most controversial in the US. In this post, we’ll analyze a bit more information about what people think of free gun possession in America. According to Statista.com, the most-armed American state is currently Texas, with 403,185 registered weapons. California comes in second with 312,264 registered weapons, and Virginia takes third with 268,234 registered weapons in the state. Florida and Pennsylvania round out the top five, with 254,391 and 225,377 respectively.

Who wants to legalize marijuana in the United States?

After many years of debate, California became the first state in the United States to legalize medical marijuana in 1996. As of 2015, 23 states and the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana for medical and recreational use. Despite some forms of legalization, thousands of American people think that marijuana should be legalized for free use.
