Playing Bridge Online

Posted 08-26-2014 at 06:34 PM by Rubi3

I regularly play bridge online as well as locally. It's open 24 hours a day with players from all over the world. One person who is often my partner is a man in Egypt. We've played partners for about 2 years. I know very little about him other than he and I play a similar game and once when he was online more than usual he said his wife was in another country awaiting the birth of their newest child.

One thing players do online that would rarely happen in person is they will leave...

Surnames and In-laws

Posted 08-05-2014 at 09:37 AM by Rubi3

My mom was proud of her maiden name, more so than her married name, the latter of which was my surname. I didn't like the name, but didn't realize it was probably because of mother. Neither names are unusual, but not common either. Just regular unassuming names more likely not to be given names.

He had red hair and a lot of freckles. Many years later, my second husband happened to have a business trip to a town near where I lived...

Birthday Party in Yale

Posted 07-20-2014 at 11:54 AM by Rubi3

Yesterday, I drove to Yale OK from Muskogee, thinking I would find Underwood Rd easily, but didn't see a sign. Decided to fuel up my car and asked the lady about Underwood Rd. Looking puzzled she finally decided it was that way, pointing east. So I drove 3 blocks that way and didn't see it. Yale is barely more than 1200 population, so if I went one more block I'd be out-of-town. I turned onto the next street and it was handy to stop and ask a man in a parked SUV.

"I'm looking for...

Traveling in the UK

Posted 07-17-2014 at 08:16 PM by Rubi3

When traveling in England, I would go to the bus station and take the first coach scheduled to leave if the first stop wasn't too far away. I think it was in Exeter, I met a man and his college age daughter who were touring around in a car with the ultimate destination a small town in Scotland. I joined them agreeing to pay part of the fuel costs and we headed for Land's End before the trip north. He was a professor at an Illinois university on a year's sabbatical and she was a student.
