Welcome To Case's Column

Since this will be my first venture into the mysterious world of blogging, let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings "Case's Column". I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, I'll set aside a place here for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Here you are. My very first blog page. Come on in and share in the experience. I'm interested in seeing where this is all going. And thanks in advance for dropping by!

Regards,

New Windshields Are All They're Cracked Up To Be

Posted 08-25-2012 at 06:42 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The mystery occurred while I was at work on a recent Monday afternoon. When I finished lunch that day to go out to my car to put something in it, I left it with my side windows cracked open for air. After all, it is Texas and temperatures do get real hot out there on that thar parking lot.

So what happens when I leave work? I find a foot-long crack from the lower left siding going diagonally to just in front of the driver's view. It wasn't there earlier. Not...

Astros' Enlightenment: The RedHawks Are Winning Now

Posted 08-18-2012 at 07:59 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The Houston Astros need good news. They need lots of good news because the big-league club has not played good baseball (well, not much of it, anyway) since April and May. You can say that there's a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. And said light takes up residence 443 miles away in a little Triple-A ballpark north of the Red River.

Behold this: The Oklahoma City RedHawks have a winning record in the Pacific Coast League, at 66-60, and may well be vying for...

As If We Needed One More Reminder....

Posted 08-18-2012 at 07:32 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

.....that you and I are not getting any younger. We're just not, folks. My body is not near as fast as it used to be. Or as agile. I may still be sexy at 46 (not to suggest that's real old), but it won't hold a candle to the inevitable "falling apart" syndrome that slowly besets me. As I look around me, guys and gals that "had it" when they were younger are still fogging as much as they can.

I tend to think of musical artists, actors, and...

Scattershooting / The Ins And Outs Of Oil Changes

Posted 08-13-2012 at 06:53 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Why don't you and I just come on and gather around our lovely computer campfire once again? That's because it's time for me to do some more scattershooting with the masses. Plus, I just need more new material to write, but that's not important now.

Ready? I'll just let 'er rip!

********

Today was the first oil change in my recently-bought new (and slightly used) 2011 Toyota Camry. And, like any other time with my previous Toyota,...

Main Street America? Try Grapevine, Texas

Posted 08-04-2012 at 02:32 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This great nation of ours has so many Main Streets. Lots of towns, medium, small, and smaller, offer a quaint persona and an innocence connected to a time most tend to forget about. I can remember when a place like Grapevine, Texas was a small town between other small towns. That was back in the early 1970s.

And today? Well, in Dallas-Fort Worth, we have lots of suburbs that, at one time, were small towns but have taken on immense growth in business,...
