Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Elusive Dream For The Elusive Woman Stays Elusive For Now

Amazing how, in six years of blogging on my favorite blog site, this writer has not covered one topic, considering the things already discussed while we sit at the computer campfire together and shoot a breeze so as not to put out said fire. Oh, sure, there are quite a few subjects, admittedly, that I haven't touched on because either (1) it hasn't been on my mind, (2) I forgot to write it down in the car, or (3) Case just flat isn't interested.

The time has come...

Sleep Apparently Not A Big Problem For Ol' Case --- At Unexpected Times

Posted 03-27-2014 at 03:29 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

You can start calling me Naphead if you like. Funny how a guy who occasionally takes naps gets only about five to six hours of sleep each night. And last night was about as bizarre as it can get.

Your favorite blogger wanted to write some blog posts last night, but something got in the way. He was feeling tired at the computer, just mere moments after consuming two chicken pot pies for his supper. It's not like I wanted to take a nap, but that urge to lie...

Astros Ready Themselves For A New Campaign In '14

Posted 03-22-2014 at 07:47 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Well, so much for the hype surrounding outfielder George Springer and first baseman Jon Singleton. Both were subpar in spring outings for the Houston Astros, though Springer showed occasional flashes of why he's a top prospect. Oh, but not to worry. They'll go down to Triple-A and get their feet further wetted down in Oklahoma City before they officially make their major league debuts. They will get better, and it's only a matter of time.

Meanwhile, a few more...

Geckos, Fire Drills, And Former Co-Workers Make Up An Eventful Day

Posted 03-18-2014 at 08:00 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

You probably couldn't have written a crazier script than some of the things that happened to me today. I'm not saying that this was a bad day by any stretch, not in the least. Just some things that were heartwarming and things that were funny, along with a potential Target curfuffle that was waiting to happen.

At work today, things went well. On two occasions, I'd gotten to hear from two of my former co-workers, one by instant message, and the other by phone. Just...
