Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting / The Loss Of A Texas Sportswriter

Posted 04-29-2016 at 07:20 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Here I go again with more Scattershooting right here on City-Data, where it's great to be alive. And here you go again with reading this blog page and becoming more informed each day, you'd swear you must have been at a Holiday Inn Express. Let's get the proceedings underway.

The inspiration (in part) for my Case's Column blog page has just passed away. He was a longtime Texas sportswriter with his own backwoods personality and dry wit....

Spring Storms Can Bring Some Unusual Illusions

Posted 04-29-2016 at 11:38 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

You know it can get crazy during spring in Texas when you start imagining things. Passing showers or flashes of lightning can oftentimes have been known to occasionally bring forth a crazy dream or illusion. That's especially true when you're just trying to wake up in the early morning.

And one instance occurred on my way to work a few mornings ago. We'd just come off of a night of a passing thunderstorm that, several hours earlier, had gotten overhyped by local meteorologists....

Do I? Well, I'll Think About It

Posted 04-25-2016 at 08:01 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Have you ever bought something at SuperTarget or Walgreen's or some other outlet, and you were at the cash register and the cashier would ask you if you would like to be "a rewards member"? Ever had that?

I have. Most times, whenever I'm buying something and not wanting to spend a great deal of time at the store, I'd just shrug it off or tell the cashier "I'll think about it". That's apparently the easy way out of things, id-nit? "I'll think...

Astros Off To A Slow Start: Is It Time To Panic?

Posted 04-23-2016 at 08:16 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Houston baseball fans have had plenty of reason to get excited about a new season, given that their Astros had their best season in years this past year, with its first playoff berth since their World Series sighting in 2005. Expectations are high this year, so much so that the cats at Sports Illustrated had the team highlighted on their baseball promotion cover, predicting them to win all the marbles.

And the Astros record as of this writing? How about 5-12? Houston,...

There's Nothing Wrong With Diversity - It's Just About Priorities

Posted 04-23-2016 at 07:51 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's pretty safe to say that America has gone downhill for about five decades or so, what with eroding values, divorce, broken families, high crime rates, corruption, what have you. You can just look all around you and see that some of the things that made America the greatest nation in the world are constantly and brazenly under attack (religious freedom, individualism, voting rights, etc). They're everywhere, from crooked politicians to Hollywood's influences to the music industry's...
