Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, I'll set aside a place here for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Old West Cafe Finally Celebrates Its Move In Denton

Posted 05-07-2017 at 09:25 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It was long-awaited by the locals. Those cramped parking spaces became cumbersome and nobody wants to park next to the stinky old dumpster.

Breakfast and lunch fans of Old West Café can take heart. The Denton, Texas, location has finally made the big move. Where they used to be was the first Old West ever in North Texas, in a building that has spanned some three decades. For years, it had been a Denton institution, and they've had many positive recognitions....

Houston Bids Thanks To Dave Ward For Fifty Great TV Years

Posted 05-07-2017 at 09:14 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Even though I've always wanted to live in the Houston area, the opportunities to move there just never have panned out. I would have loved to have moved to that area. Katy would be ideal, since it doesn't flood as much there as other parts of the area.

But that's not why I'm writing this. I'll save the side dishes for later. As much as I hated not living in Houston, I've missed so many great things about that market, only to make up for a smidge of that courtesy...

Bring Back The CBS Late Movie -- Just Like Old Times

Posted 05-04-2017 at 08:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Of course, we've got hundreds of choices on television nowadays, what with cable and satellite dishing out so many channels. Pun intended.

So, are the broadcast networks just getting tired? They've got no new ideas, no good comedy writers like before, and late night television is just not as good anymore. A few years ago, I wrote about Dave Letterman giving way to Stephen Colbert, and what we speculated it would bring.

Yep, something...

May The Fourth Be With You

Posted 05-04-2017 at 06:06 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Clever, huh? Okay, so it's Star Wars Day, but that really wasn't on people's minds in my place of business. May the fourth be with you. I'm trying to let that sink in. May the fourth.... .... Well, that was our theme at work today, as we took some time to celebrate Cinco de Mayo one day early. Basically, it was a company-wide effort and we brought snacks.

And my supervisor outdid everyone by bringing his special tortilla soup, hot from the...

Catch The Next Shuttle To Wind Up At The Wrong Place

Posted 05-02-2017 at 07:59 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Well, I have to say that I don't deal with this every day. Still, things had to be done at a Dallas hospital for a procedure I only get every few years. As much as the complex keeps changing, this writer had to make some adjustments with a new parking configuration that didn't exist two years ago.

So I parked in a parking garage a few blocks from where I needed to go, only to take a shuttle to the hospital stop. I was under the impression there was only one shuttle...
