Welcome To Case's Column

Since this will be my first venture into the mysterious world of blogging, let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings "Case's Column". I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, I'll set aside a place here for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Here you are. My very first blog page. Come on in and share in the experience. I'm interested in seeing where this is all going. And thanks in advance for dropping by!

Regards,

The Unexpected At Work: Possible Second Chance?

Posted 09-09-2016 at 01:05 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

A couple of days ago, before I was to have a bowl of chili with my brother at Tolbert's in Grapevine, TX (You should try that place, folks ---- Legendary! ), a situation happened at work that I never really would have expected.

It started a month ago, when I applied for a day position in Customs Brokerage at my place of business. The ensuing interview went great, but I ended up edged out by one person wishing to change his schedule and who had already been experienced...

America, I Still Love You --- Sharing A Song

Posted 09-09-2016 at 12:37 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Two days from this writing, we will have a day of remembrance here in the United States as September 11 will be upon us.

It has been fifteen years since one of the darkest days in American history as terrorism in its purest form made a rare appearance on our own soil. Thousands of innocent people perished for absolutely no reason. All because of a few perpetrators from overseas who saw fit to demoralize and destroy our society and our nation.

I'm just...

I-69 Update: Mile Markers In Houston? Yep

Posted 09-06-2016 at 04:10 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Not much new on the Interstate 69 front, but on a recent trip to Houston, I saw an interesting development. And I know I haven't seen this before.

On the Eastex Freeway, I noticed some mile markers for the first time, and curiously, the mileage figures that were put on them are about the actual distance on I-69 / U.S. 59 from Victoria, which will be the convergence point of I-69E and I-69W into I-69. So, the concept is starting to get clearer now. Since I-69 won't...

I Felt The Earth Move --- Literally

Posted 09-03-2016 at 09:33 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

And all I did was sit at this computer. It was 7 a.m. on Saturday morning, all by my lonesome, and minding my own business when suddenly....

I felt the apartment move from left to right, back and forth, for about a minute or so.

How bizarre was that? What could possibly have been going on for a certain minute on a certain Saturday morning?

Well, I thought nothing of it a few minutes later and went about my routine, posting a few...

Back-In Parking: Is This The Coming Thing?

Posted 09-02-2016 at 09:59 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Life sure is a funny thing. So are city decisions made by city leaders which we don't really know about until we see something strange before our eyes.

Such happens to be the case when I drove westbound on Church Street (one-way) in Lewisville, Texas, and I spotted a new type of parking situation on the north side of the MCL Grand Theater. It has a line of parking spaces faced against the driver's actual direction. In other words, the spaces, under previous...
