Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, I'll set aside a place here for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

And The Choice For Now Is....Solitude

Posted 12-26-2016 at 07:44 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I've made a choice in my life, but it doesn't mean that things won't change at some point. Staying single has been the best thing that's happened to me, some buzz-haired guy in Texas who likes to do a little writin' now and then. It beats being divorced, that's for sure.

Oh, yeah, one of these days, some nice lady will come along, we'll fall in love, become best friends, and then........BOOM! I have a help mate. Look, I'm not going to burn a blog...

Even After AASHTO Rejection, Can Some Still Dream?

Sometimes, you'll hear two things about one subject and, given the conflicting nature of the dissent, you don't really know what to believe.

And such happens to be the case with Interstate 14 in Central Texas. For want of a better matter, it's what will be covered to get I-14 built in Texas or any other state, as plans are still circulating about its eastern terminus going further east and north. Congress has, once upon a time, passed the I-14 corridor idea by approving...

The Things That Must Go Right For The Astros In '17

A few weeks ago, the Houston Astros have made some new acquisitions to improve their batting lineup for the 2017 season. In the wings is a former Astro hoping to get voted into Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame, Jeff Bagwell. What remains to be seen now is whether or not general manager Jeff Luhnow can get one top-flight starting pitcher to add to his core.

Still, what the club has done so far has been very good and stands to be one of the league's most improved clubs....

Remembering Radio Stations From Long Ago

Posted 12-23-2016 at 07:17 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

My goodness, it's been some forty-five years since sitting in my bedroom at my old house on a weekend afternoon and actually having a radio in my bedroom. And, lo and behold, I actually listened to it when I wasn't in the car with mom and dad and was also trying to outgrow Sesame Street. The station was KBOX-AM (1480), then a country music station with the top country of that time. Great deejays, too. Legendary history.

Not too long after that, I passed...

A Christmas Card To My Readers

Posted 12-22-2016 at 08:57 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I pride myself as a writer, but not necessarily as a poet. Being that the calendar suggests it's Christmas Eve Eve Eve, I'll just spare you the poetry. Instead, I can simply share what might go on a Christmas card.

Notice that I said might. I haven't gone over to Hallmark and memorized every card. And, no, I'm not applying for work at American Greetings any time soon. So, in the parlance of spontaneity, just use your imagination.
