Checked the bees on Fri. to remove feeders and add a second deep hive body and frames to each one.

Hive #1 looks to be doing well, good population and comb drawn out on the end frames, some frames heavy with stored honey. Didn't check the inner frames.

Hive #2 apparently not doing so well, honey stored in end frame(s) on one side but some frames, particularly on the opposite side don't even have comb drawn out yet. Population seems lower and there seems to be less activity...

Humming along

Finally, a break in the rain long enough to check the hives. Walked down the drive to the eastern side of the field, then followed the treeline at the ravine between the front and back fields. Along the way I noticed some activity at the new raspberry canes about midway, loaded with blooms and bees buzzing about. Stepping in and partway down the gully I observed them- small, and black/white colored. Hmmmm, not my bees, mine are dark yellow/orange and black. Why aren't *my* bees here? Oh, well....

Many thanks to those who sent inquiring DMs after I disappeared. I've missed everyone here and thought about you all often. And I apologize to all who sent Xmas cards but didn't get any in return.

Rather than tie up threads in the forum explaining, I'll update here.

As Winter approached (2008-2009) my other half began complaining of being in pain, which grew more intense as time went on. There seemed to be no explanation for it- she hadn't fallen or injured herself, it...

Amazing...I'm embarrassed to say that for a long-time electronics/computer geek who was on the 'net before it had pretty pictures, I have never done a "blog"...maybe because the fun wore off after being in the business for so long.
