At some point near my last house hunt post here, I learned about an old house forum and although I still visited and posted on this site's forum, I never kept up with the house hunt story here. There's a rather long and detailed thread on the old house forum, though.

Long story short, we bought a different house than the one I wrote of back when. Our house hunt actually turned into quite the adventure for us.

It feels like forever until Monday.

So, we went to look at that house last Thursday. The listing didn't do it justice. It's not perfect in every single way, but we sure checked a lot of our "want" boxes while viewing it, and only one "not ideal" box got checked while there.

After the viewing, we then--totally gung ho--go immediately to the bank afterwards only to find out the agent spouse had been talking with was on vacation. No problem, the lady we do meet with leaves a message for the mortgage...

Yesterday was now the second time my heart has dropped over the same home.

Not too long ago, we attended a retirement party for a spouse’s co-worker. While chatting with the spouse of another one of his co-workers, she mentioned they were looking at fixer upper properties in Gardner for a profitable side project. Before my brain caught up, I felt that “oh no” moment, and quickly blurted out a query about an address that's been on our radar. I was relieved when it was not on...

Looking ahead of schedule, hard to backpedal.

When we moved to this state, the intent was that we would do our best in six-nine months' time to make sure this city had strong potential to be our forever home before we would start looking to buy. We hoped to buy within either our second or third year here, depending on how the market turned out to be.

Due to an unforeseeable query from a retiring co-worker within the first few weeks of being here, we suddenly found ourselves spending an inordinate amount of time discussing home...
