Sales decline, but put it into perspective

I read in the business section recently that sales are down for the 1st quarter of 2009 compared to the 1st quarter of 2008. So?
Why does this not really bother me? Why do I not think the market is bad? You can blame it all on my dad. See, he always taught me to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges and to put things into perspective.

May 2009 Follow Up

We were blasted with our first heat wave in the first half of May 2009. Within the first 15 days, only a trace of rain had fallen. Luckily, conditions changed by the 16th as more rain came along with cooler temperatures. We have had quite a few days with heavy rain and severe thunderstorms.
