Spring is here, I guess. Here in Yuma it is a bit hard to determine when spring has sprung, as the saying goes. The warm climate of Yuma makes it difficult to tell. Whatís more, winter comes late. In fact, compared to the rest of the country, there really isnít much in the way of a winter at all. I grew up in Phoenix. Like Yuma, it is hard to get a real appreciation of the oncoming of spring. Itís just not that big a deal.

Autism and Schools

I have had my fair share of challenges with schools and my son who is turning 11 this year. I have gone from moving him from school to school and have even moved out of my house just to rent a small apartment 10 mins away in a better school district.

Now I am meeting my next challenge and it has a name...its called the STAARs test! I hate standardized tests...extremely hate them. What is Autism? What are the descriptors of the word Autism when you google it? Restrictive and repetitive...

Sunlight is creeping in from the east through the pearly-grey skies and before me perched on the topmost maple limb (still bare) is a hummingbird, surveying her domain. We once had several families of them in permanent residence, until our (mean) neighbor took out their holly tree. Now, each sighting is a special gift. I am hoping that our rich supply of natural food (insects and nectars) will draw them back.

Yesterday and Easter reached the mid-60s, and today is forecast for even...
