"Bibles" of the future

I noticed that today via Facebook, that there's Sandburg and Whitman streets, high schools, bands, cheerleaders, malls, grocery stores. .good grief!!

Within the Sandburg Collected Works there's a very long poem, "The Peop!e, Yes" filled with short vignettes, very touching, very human, absolutely gorgeous.

I wonder how many of the people associated with the Sandburg or Whitman named public facilities have actually read the poetry. Here is an example:

Time To Get The Christmas Tree Out

Posted 11-29-2018 at 08:21 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

By now, you've hopefully finished your Thanksgiving leftovers. That's all done? Good. Now comes the big stuff.

For me, my Christmas tree is so small that it only takes one minute to take from my closet and place upon my CD cabinet. For a lot of you others, however, yours is much larger and has room for many decorations. It also will take longer for you to set it up and, when everything's done, take it down. Christmas time is definitely upon us....

"Bibles" of the future

Posted 11-28-2018 at 07:46 PM by KaraZetterberg153

Assuming humans survive our current difficulties -- ecological disaster, the possibility of nuclear war -- perhaps our current holy books will go the way of prior literature and be forgotten by all but the most erudite scholars. Of course the notion that we will survive is by no means certain. But if we do, what current great books do you think will survive and perhaps become the new holy books?

I would vote for Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass." It qualifies in every way....

Eden Remembered

Posted 11-28-2018 at 07:37 AM by elston

I have been reworking a poem I wrote and posted some years ago.

Eden Remembered

Why do we call it "Fall"?
Perhaps because of children falling
into piles of scarlet and gold or
Summer herself, falling like Rome;

Mother called the bruised apples that fell
Beneath the trees, "drops".
She hurried to use them before they spoiled.
"Don't slam that door; I have a cake in the oven."...
