Siesta, Longboat, Lido and Manasota Keys from a natives view

Posted 12-09-2009 at 11:27 AM by SoFLGal

Most of the keys in the area are pretty neat and everyone has a different feel.

In my opinion, Siesta Key has the youngest vibe. Probably due to the handful of bars and several restaurants in the village that seem to draw the younger crowd. Most of the bands that play out at the Siesta bars seemed to be geared more for the younger crowd as well.

Longboat always had more of an old money feel to me. There really is no downtown area on Longboat either, unless you consider...

Sarasota and Charlotte county Florida flood zones

Posted 12-09-2009 at 11:25 AM by SoFLGal

The flood zones change throughout Sarasota. Generally speaking, the closer you are to water the more likely you are to be in a flood zone. Here's a link to the FEMA flood maps. You can just punch in an address and come up with the flood zone. FEMA Map Service Center -

I always like to double check the zones with the insurance companies but I've had some that aren't experienced in quoting flood rates give me incorrect info. The above website is where they would be pulling their info...

Posted 12-09-2009 at 11:24 AM by SoFLGal

Did a quick search of Manatee and Sarasota counties and used this criteria, 300K-350K, 3 beds/2 baths or more, 2005 or newer, single family homes. 42 homes in Sarasota county and 47 in Manatee county. Villages at Pinetree Marsh
Sarasota Springs
The Enclave

I am a native Floridian and have lived in or close by Sarasota county my whole life and have never evacuated, not to say that I wouldn't but I've never felt the need to.

Anywhere you live in the world you will be faced with some kind of natural disaster-tornadoes, typhoons, tidal waves, earthquakes,...

Punta Gorda real estate and recovery

Posted 12-09-2009 at 11:16 AM by SoFLGal

Downtown Punta Gorda was hit pretty bad by Charlie but it is all rebuilt now. The hotel got hit and many of the homes right along Retta Esplanade (the main street along the harbor). It seems every weekend they have something going on down there. This weekend is the Seafood Festival and last weekend was the Peace River Art Show. On Thursday nights they have a jam sessions in Gilchrist Park. Punta Gorda is a pretty cool town.

There are many places to go hang out: Harpoon Harry's (they...
