I kind of stumbled here while looking for pictures of the Colonie area, to show my teenage son. Of course I realized, that after over 40 years, things would look MUCH different! (I'm writing some memoirs and would like to include pictures, though).

Before looking around, I thought I'd introduce myself, vaguely. I lived in Colonie, in the Vly Road area (hence the unimaginative username...!),--was it Shaker Rd?-- from 1953-64, when my parents uprooted our family of 5 and went back to their native Massachusetts (Dad's job).

I LOVED growing up there: our house, a Cape Cod-style, which my dad built almost entirely by himself, was great...nothing fancy, just practical and best of all, surrounded by fields and woods and on the main road, houses filled with kids of all ages.

I played outside with them, and my older siblings, constantly. After attending St. Clare's Elementary School, I made some new friends, and basically had the run of the area, as kids did then.

Though I love Mass. (graduated from UMass/Amherst), I do miss that area and would love to hear from someone with a similar experience, whether you still live there or not. I'd also LOVE pictures. If I can get my kid to fix the scanner, I'll post some of our area--right now most of the ones I have are of his rock band (!)...

Does ANYTHING there look like it once did? Let me know!

Yo! My kid DID go to Hawaii (Waipahu, near Honolulu) to stay w/his girlfriend's family for a month). Everything worked out alright but we we left in the dark as to the TRUE workings of all thisI might detail this further but suffice it to say that he loved it and would have stayed if he hadnt't been a dyed-in-the-wool Happy Valley-ite.

That in itself needs explaining, but it pertains to the CT River Valley in W.Mass, where people of most whatevers...get along and are TRULY happy. There
