To Be, or Not To Be: That is Tesla's Question for Me

Posted 03-12-2014 at 02:52 PM by Blondebaerde

(Inspired by a C-D Automotive section post regarding the "high price" of the Tesla S, at this writing. My first reaction: "high in relation to what, exactly?")

I assume, from a marketing adoption curve perspective, most Tesla owners are still "bleeding edge" or "early adopters." For reasons a bit abstruse to me, that sort of analysis isn't easy to find on the Internet...perhaps I'm not looking hard enough.

It's a tough market...

Succeeding in Tech, Seattle-Style

Posted 02-27-2014 at 02:47 PM by Blondebaerde
Updated 02-28-2014 at 03:55 PM by Blondebaerde

I'm in high tech, Seattle area. Technical management, to be specific, though veering ever more to the business-side (customer experience, strategy) which is of greater interest. I've done well: better than most, not as good as some, and I'm okay with that. One should strive for greater success, and I'm ambitious too.

Today I'm thinking about how to be "successful" in this field, a subject of occasional interest in various parts of the forum (Seattle is of particular interest,...

"Affordable" Seattle Living: Defining the Term

Posted 02-26-2014 at 01:52 PM by Blondebaerde

What is "affordable" living in Seattle metro, specifically around rent and mortgage? The word drives me bats: too ambiguous, without much more situation-specific details.

So: what if we put a methodology around "affordable," starting simple. I'm a simple guy, how about the following:

Given: 30% gross of monthly income for rent/mortgage is acceptable (1). 28% gross disappears in taxes (2).

I popped over to US BLS website. Tons of...

The Concealed Carry Paradigm

Posted 02-25-2014 at 01:35 PM by Blondebaerde
Updated 01-03-2015 at 01:40 PM by Blondebaerde

I've been thinking about the concealed carry (handgun) paradigm for civilians (like me) quite awhile now. There are a couple dimensions, which actually define why I like the 1911 so much, and Commander-size in particular for my needs.

Bit of background: my home, in WA state, is "shall issue" the concealed carry permit (CCW). Which means what it says. If you pass the background checks, you will be issued a license allowing you to carry concealed. WA statutes are clear...

The Combined Sales, Service, and Product Experience in Modern Car Buying

Posted 02-24-2014 at 12:01 PM by Blondebaerde

Not trying to ignite a shouting match between, say, the F and C American brands in trucks or cars. Power to yah, you have your reasons for choosing either. My reasons for staying with two brands...one JPN and the other EUR...are about as much the dealer experience and ongoing maintenance as the vehicle capabilities. I cannot be alone in feeling this way.

JPN brand: I've bought several vehicles from one guy, at one dealer (of several) in the area. He plays it square, objectively,...
