This started as my travel log. (We've been traveling the USA from Seattle, WA since Labor Day '08.) My husband has a great website showing the highlights and his commentaries on the places we've been and the things we've done. (View via my profile home page.)

I found that while discovering the country, I was also finding myself. I am learning what to keep, and what to drop -- or chisel away. I don't mind sharing; maybe you will learn something from my lessons, too.

Then came Bigun, my Cocker-Beagle, my newest guru. He's got his own category in the Blog, and an album on my profile.

You are welcome to what I have, good and bad, and leave messages as you like, but please be kind. I, too, am still "in training."

Doctor's, Vet's, Tests, and Weather

Posted 10-02-2009 at 07:56 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
DH's still suffering some lingering "symptoms" from his flu in Fond du Lac, and we're hoping for test results today, thinking there's a treatment for relief if they could just discover the cause.

Bigun's "symptoms" are also returned, so it's opportune that he has a vet visit scheduled for this afternoon.

Meanwhile, our biopsies' results came back yesterday. Mine were negative. DH wasn't so lucky. Squamous cell carcinoma, AGAIN. Luckily, he was able...

Another Mayberry for THE List!

Posted 09-30-2009 at 02:37 PM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
We spent the morning walking the waterfront here in Duluth, and LOVED it. Such a great little town, and not so little.

As far as we could see at first blush, it has everything we want, and more, and the people seem very nice. I am a little concerned about how my legs will handle biking with these hills, but there are lots of bike routes.

I understand the winters are pretty severe, but maybe that's just an adjustment to the wardrobe.

Be sure and check out my...

Michigan's UP

Posted 09-27-2009 at 05:46 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
Being a "Michigander" I grew up hearing the men in my family talking about the fishin' the walleye up on Drummond (Island), and my Grandpa had a hunting cabin on Beaver, where my Mom, sister, and I lived for a year and a half, after my parents' marriage split. I was ten, at that time.

Despite this vague familiarity, I wasn't expecting this deep sense of being HOME that I started feeling as we crossed into Michigan's UP from northern Wisconsin. I don't even recall that we've...

Tapeworms, AGAIN! 8(

Posted 09-26-2009 at 12:10 PM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)

I guess I am grateful it wasn't worse, and the situation is easily treatable, but it's exasperating that we had Bigun treated for tapeworms in Elgin, sixteen days ago. Apparently, the medication either didn't take, or he was re-infected. (It's reported that the worms get into their system from eating fleas. He DID have a bad flea infestation when we got him, but that problem has been long gone!)

Anyway, praise God, it wasn't Giardia, and it wasn't Parvo virus, and we do know what it...

Hoping for the Vet's Office to Call Back

Posted 09-26-2009 at 08:24 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
I should've done this sooner, but I was hopeful that restricting Bigun's access to moths, acorns, etc would improve his elimination challenges. Instead, now that we're here in no man's land on a Saturday, and he's worse. He continues to strain long after the runny stuff is gone, and I can feel his discomfort through the lead.

We've called three vets that show Saturday hours, hoping someone can get us in. Meanwhile, Bigun doesn't seem to mind; he's sleeping in my chair. I'm rivited...
