This started as my travel log. (We've been traveling the USA from Seattle, WA since Labor Day '08.) My husband has a great website showing the highlights and his commentaries on the places we've been and the things we've done. (View via my profile home page.)

I found that while discovering the country, I was also finding myself. I am learning what to keep, and what to drop -- or chisel away. I don't mind sharing; maybe you will learn something from my lessons, too.

Then came Bigun, my Cocker-Beagle, my newest guru. He's got his own category in the Blog, and an album on my profile.

You are welcome to what I have, good and bad, and leave messages as you like, but please be kind. I, too, am still "in training."

On the Road, Again!

Posted 09-25-2009 at 05:21 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
DH is MUCH improved, and we're rolling in less than two hours. Next stop: Escanaba, MI. We'll be there a few days, before heading to Duluth, MN.

Weather forecasts make my plans to kayak Lake Superior look very optimistic, but I remain hopeful. If not, at least I'll be able to walk its banks.

We're leaving WI, but taking the memories with us, and plan to come back for a closer look when the trip is finished, and we've got our Mayberry list finalized. We REALLY liked Milwaukee...

Mindful That There's NOT a Darned thing I CAN DO, and It's Okay

Posted 09-24-2009 at 06:44 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
DH has been ill with probably stomach flu since Monday afternoon. As of last night, his fever (101+) is gone, but he's still pretty weak. We remain here in Fond du Lac, WI while he recovers.

Bigun continues to grow, play, and demands my attention -- a great reminder that life goes on, despite our stuff. I wish our eleven year old Lhasa would accept him, so she could take some of the play time, but that doesn't appear likely after three weeks. Yes, it HAS been Three Weeks!

Fond du Lac, WI: "The people are SO NICE here."

Posted 09-22-2009 at 06:51 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
Yesterday afternoon while walking Bigun through another residential neighborhood near the fairgrounds where we are camped, my DH repeated this comment for the third time.

He's NEVER made this comment, through over a year of traveling the country, so it's DEFINITELY noteworthy.

It's a great town. I am sure it has its problems, but for "down home," wholesome goodness, it is WAY ahead of any place we've been, so far. The homes are neat and clean, and NOT ostentatious...

Indiscriminate Eating

Posted 09-21-2009 at 05:54 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
Since getting Bigun over two weeks ago, we've suffered with his loose stools. (Sorry for the graphic, but it's only to explain why we've had to commit this atrocity!)

First we thought it was the stress of transport, or from the tapeworms, and then we thought maybe it was a reaction to his shots -- if not all of the above. But time enough has passed for all that to settle out, and his system still hasn't, so we did further research.

We learned that beagles are Indiscriminate...

Our Training Waves, Ebb and Flow

Posted 09-19-2009 at 06:58 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
Yesterday was a BIG training day for us, with lots of lessons. Bigun performed valiantly on the 6' lead, demonstrating his understanding of "no pull" AND "leave it." Later, as we prepared to leave the RV park in Watertown to travel north to Fond du Lac, he showed his progress in "going for a ride" in the Jeep. Not ONCE did he try to crawl into the driver's seat, but remained seated on his side.

Later, here at FdL's fairground camping, he got to go run...
