This started as my travel log. (We've been traveling the USA from Seattle, WA since Labor Day '08.) My husband has a great website showing the highlights and his commentaries on the places we've been and the things we've done. (View via my profile home page.)

I found that while discovering the country, I was also finding myself. I am learning what to keep, and what to drop -- or chisel away. I don't mind sharing; maybe you will learn something from my lessons, too.

Then came Bigun, my Cocker-Beagle, my newest guru. He's got his own category in the Blog, and an album on my profile.

You are welcome to what I have, good and bad, and leave messages as you like, but please be kind. I, too, am still "in training."

Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin -- Oh My!

Posted 09-17-2009 at 05:34 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
After YEARS of trying to get my husband to consider relocating to the Midwest, I was shocked at his reactions to walking about Indianapolis. As we were descending the stairs from the Main Library, he turns to me and says: "I don't know about you, but I think we can add this to the Mayberry list."

I nearly fell down the stairs!

He felt the same about Chicago, after his day trip into town from Elgin, and again, yesterday, while we visited Milwaukee. He adds:...

Breaking Habits, Starting Anew

I love listening to Pema Chodron, a western Buddhist monk that teaches the way to Enlightenment. I am currently in the midst of listening to her discuss True Happiness.

So many lessons, so little time. Why could I not come to the point I am now, back when? Why ask why? Here's where I am, now. Let the baggage fall where it may.

My biggest failing is apparently Critical Mind, peppered with a good deal of Pride, Gluttony, and Sloth. What a combination! Still,...

Green grass, a Chewie, and Thee

Posted 09-15-2009 at 10:06 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
Is there anything finer than to hang out with the ones we love, enjoying the "Dog Days" of late summer, and chewing on something good?

Bigun's come into his own in our little family. Our eleven year old female Lhasa hasn't quite embraced him into her bosom, but he's not worried. He knows, as all spiritually hip dogs know, that all good things come in their own time.

Until then, lolling in the green grass, under blue skies, at the feet of Dad is a pretty darned...

There's Got to be a Pony in Here, Somewhere!

Posted 09-14-2009 at 08:44 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
Yesterday was a travel day, better than the one prior -- at least I had a rag ready to receive Bigun's "offering" when the motion became too much for his tummy! He's gradually getting used to travel, but things take time.

Me, too. Travel days are those where I suffer my most anxiety. Too many in a row and I get "twitchy" and very emotional. Those are the times when everything looks dark and foreboding, every event it traumatic, and I become a shrew. We try to...

Look, it's Wonder Dog!

Posted 09-13-2009 at 06:55 PM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
Bigun the Moth Terror ran the bases in the park's ball field this afternoon, and then checked out the skateboard park. It was just a small one, but he scaled each of the ramps, except the most steep. I think there's agility training in his future....
