This started as my travel log. (We've been traveling the USA from Seattle, WA since Labor Day '08.) My husband has a great website showing the highlights and his commentaries on the places we've been and the things we've done. (View via my profile home page.)

I found that while discovering the country, I was also finding myself. I am learning what to keep, and what to drop -- or chisel away. I don't mind sharing; maybe you will learn something from my lessons, too.

Then came Bigun, my Cocker-Beagle, my newest guru. He's got his own category in the Blog, and an album on my profile.

You are welcome to what I have, good and bad, and leave messages as you like, but please be kind. I, too, am still "in training."

Fifty-Three Years of WRONG Thinking

Posted 09-12-2009 at 06:01 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
Two days ago, as I walked the meadow trails around the Forest Preserve here in Elgin, IL, I had a nice LONG talk with God. I wondered why I'd been abandoned at birth, why I'd been adopted by parents so self-absorbed, why my life was a continual string of rejections.

Would I EVER be accepted, and -- was it to much to ask for Love?

I got my answer the next morning. All my life I'd been looking at it backwards, by living in my past.

My past was a preparation for...

Long Drive to Disappointments

Posted 09-10-2009 at 05:49 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
We drove to Chicago yesterday morning, after (but not long enough) the dogs were fed and walked. A half-hour before we arrived at the destined Museum of Science and Industry, Bigun tossed his breakfast onto my lap, where he'd been sleeping. Poor thing, I knew then that I should've fed him sooner, or after we arrived.

I got up to clean myself off, and found when I returned that he'd moved from my passenger seat to the dog bed behind it -- and peed there.

All this as we're...

Factories as Models for Societies

Posted 09-09-2009 at 05:36 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
Yesterday we walked the Newmar factory tour in Nappanee, IN. I was first touched by the Value plaque in their lobby, where they described the values of their Amish and Mennonite employees -- and how those values have contributed over the decades of the company's successes.

Later, walking through the various buildings, I noted that I really LIKED factories. While I am "prissy" when it comes to order and cleanliness, and noise and commotion are an anathema for me, neither the...

Bigun the Moth Terror

Posted 09-08-2009 at 06:49 PM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
The park we're in is a large meadow between two cornfields. Bigun likes to go out along the tractor trails on the 20' lead, and chase butterflies and moths as we walk along. The butterflies are too fast for him, as they are already airborne, but the moths are in the grass. He's getting quite adept at nosing them out, and caught three before I figured out what he was doing.

Now we're getting in some good practice with that "Leave It," command.

Bigun, THAT is a Bad Dog.

Posted 09-08-2009 at 05:46 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
We'd all been outside, sitting under the RV's awning, enjoying the cooler weather. Bigun was on his 20' line, so he had access to the grass in front, and could easily visit each of us, or rest on the stuffed fleece bed.

I noticed he was trying to pull the bed up underneath him, which was nearly impossible given the amount of stuffing in the bed. I got up and got an old terry cloth robe that I've been using to cover his crate when he goes "night-night."

As expected,...
