This started as my travel log. (We've been traveling the USA from Seattle, WA since Labor Day '08.) My husband has a great website showing the highlights and his commentaries on the places we've been and the things we've done. (View via my profile home page.)

I found that while discovering the country, I was also finding myself. I am learning what to keep, and what to drop -- or chisel away. I don't mind sharing; maybe you will learn something from my lessons, too.

Then came Bigun, my Cocker-Beagle, my newest guru. He's got his own category in the Blog, and an album on my profile.

You are welcome to what I have, good and bad, and leave messages as you like, but please be kind. I, too, am still "in training."

Oh, he's SO C-u-t-e!

We've taken a site in an RV park outside Bremen, IN that must've once been a large farm. Being Labor Day weekend, it's full and there are kids everywhere. Everybody LOVES Bigun, and though he was a little tired and skittish yesterday, today he's ready to PLAY!

There are four young girls in nearby trailers, probably ages 6 to 11 years. The younger ones spotted him first, but it didn't take long for the older sisters to catch the action. He loved the attention. I just smiled as he wiggled...

Rolling Fields and Beautiful Buildings

Posted 09-06-2009 at 07:09 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
I'm a native of Michigan, and though I lived for 12 years in AZ, and 18 in WA, I still like the Midwestern states and the people. People are nice everywhere, but there just seems to be a "down home" comfort for me in the Midwest.

Years ago, I tried to convince my DH (from southern CA) that we should relocate to IN. I didn't want to return to MI because of their poor economy, but my research found IN very attractive. He just wasn't going for it. He loves the Rockies, the Western...

Walking, walking, walking - Good Walking! Wait!

Posted 09-05-2009 at 06:11 AM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
Bigun and I can be seen going through this game about every hour and a half, after he's performed the "potty" & "business" tricks. He's such a smart dog. (We haven't made ONE mistake in that game, yet!)

The first days walks were mostly just keeping him moving on the lead -- and keeping ME from tripping over him. Yesterday we TRIED to keep him left, but the right side was so tantalizing with all those smells! This morning, he managed to stay left with little...

A Good Lookin' Little Guy

Posted 09-04-2009 at 01:32 PM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
These were the vet's first words when he came to check Bigun over. (I knew that!)

His checkup came out good, and now he has a rabies tag to go with his ID bone tag (selected for his home town of Bone Cave, TN).

As my glossy black, 10.1 lb Cocker Beagle prances out to the lobby, three LARGE dogs all take an interest at once. And he makes an immediate about face and beats feet back into the exam room. Had he not been so scared, it would've been funny. I had to pay for the...

Our First Day Together

Posted 09-03-2009 at 06:50 PM by LookinForMayberry (Travels Around My Head While Touring America)
Poor MRS1885 and her DH were running late to their date in Chicago, so we didn't get a chance to do much more than say hello. "Here he is -- he needs a bath BAD, gotta go." God love her.

(The folks in Chicago had made an impossibly egregious demand that she be there by four o'clock. I don't know yet if she made it, or is now stuck with forty more homeless dogs.) I hope she made it, and is now resting up in a quiet room with a nice glass of something cold and refreshing. ...
