"So you think you are interested in making a home in the hills of eastern Kentucky or western Virginia…."

For those of you that are wondering if the hills of eastern Kentucky or western Virginia might make a good home for you I am providing my opinion for your consideration and use. It is only my opinion and is based upon what I have learned from getting to know the people that you will find in and around this area. I do not pretend to be an expert in raw financial and demographic statistics of the area. I do not pretend it is anything but subjective. I am not any better than anyone else out there....

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. Perhaps said idea of words would include barbs, one-liners, and putdowns. If you've seen my waistline, then it means that I must go on a diet for about three months.

I can't help it. I love to eat. This native Texan just loves a new experience every now and then, in addition to all of the old experiences that are still very reliable to me the more times I partake in them. So, suffice it to say, I'm a Texas...

Singing Songs While Putting Up The Flag At Work

Posted 02-05-2009 at 03:45 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Recently, I was appointed by my dispatch manager (pushed into it?) to be the new guy who puts up the flags first thing in the morning. And so, I have taken that challenge on, but after a few days, it's really no challenge. It is, however, a patriot's proud duty and I heartily accept. But something has come over me as I put flags up each day, and especially this morning. I was singing two different songs as I was raising the flags by winding the pulleys. One was "Up,...

The Big Hand And The Little Hand

Hey, City-Data friends! What time is it??

[chorus of many voices]

It's time to talk about clocks on Case's Column.

Indeed, I want to spend a little time with you about something that I haven't exactly counted as a hobby of sorts, but just an item that adds to the ambience of living in an apartment or house. In virtually every room in my abode, I have a clock in each one. Different kinds of clocks abound in the House of Case. You might...

Landscaping Legendary Lubbock: Reshaping West Texas

Posted 02-28-2009 at 08:50 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 03-07-2009 at 09:08 PM by case44
[This is the third installment in a series of blogs about a West Texas city I really care about: Lubbock.]

I've shared previously about a West Texas city called Lubbock and the vision that I have in reshaping, re-energizing, and reimaging this legendary mecca of West Texas lore. In various posts of the past on our beloved City-Data, I have read about how people have poked fun at or blasted this place because they thought it "was bland, had no aesthetics, no trees",...
