Welcome To Case's Column
Since this will be my first venture into the mysterious world of blogging, let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings "Case's Column". I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, I'll set aside a place here for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Here you are. My very first blog page. Come on in and share in the experience. I'm interested in seeing where this is all going. And thanks in advance for dropping by!
Regards,
case44

Don't Book 'em, Danno: No More Oldie Remakes
Posted 10-13-2009 at 02:32 PM by case44
As if the major broadcast TV networks didn't already have enough negative baggage to deal with (dwindling audiences, bad writers, poor acting, what have you), we get the following news from CBS: They're doing a remake of the old "Hawaii Five-O" series. What the...? Another remake of yet another old show?? More grumblings from those still thirsting for new ideas from an industry practically fresh out of them.
That's just it, folks. Need any more reasons to chuck your cable or frisbee-toss your dish? This link below made me think, "Whoops! Here comes another blog idea!"
CBS Books 'Hawaii Five-O' - Inside TV Blog
You can't replace or even imitate the original, even if the cast does call for new characters. There's no way that Steve McGarrett and Dan Williams could ever be recreated by any new generation of actors. Jack Lord is gone from us and James MacArthur is 71 and could not possibly play Dan, or anything else, ever again. You'd be better off bringing back "Battle of the Network Stars" than "Five-O".
Heck, bring back "Star Trek", "Gunsmoke", and "Adam-12" while you're at it.
If CBS is wise, they'll back off this potential mammoth disaster. Nobody's going to buy into this idea. That should serve as a pointed memo to ABC, NBC, and Fox, as well. Enough with the remakes, guys. There's got to be something that still hasn't been tried rather than attempt same. And people are plumb tired of reality shows.
Looks like it's back to the old electronic brain.

They also import a lot of shows from Britain...is there an original thought in the business anymore?Posted 10-14-2009 at 04:44 AM by shoe01

Hi, 2g's. Glad you made it by.
Shoe, referring to the British imports, that shows you right there that Americans have run out of ideas. A lot of the great Hollywood writers have either passed on, retired, or are not in the business anymore for one reason or another. And my generation and younger simply isn't producing good material, be it comedy or drama.
And nobody really knows how to do a western anymore.

I'm in agreement considering the shape that TV is in today. Nobody puts anything good on anymore. And they think making remakes is going to get more viewers? I doubt it.Posted 10-17-2009 at 11:57 AM by sustenance27
