This started as my travel log. (We've been traveling the USA from Seattle, WA since Labor Day '08.) My husband has a great website showing the highlights and his commentaries on the places we've been and the things we've done. (View via my profile home page.)
I found that while discovering the country, I was also finding myself. I am learning what to keep, and what to drop -- or chisel away. I don't mind sharing; maybe you will learn something from my lessons, too.
Then came Bigun, my Cocker-Beagle, my newest guru. He's got his own category in the Blog, and an album on my profile.
You are welcome to what I have, good and bad, and leave messages as you like, but please be kind. I, too, am still "in training."

Five Months Old, Yesterday

My Bigun turned five months, yesterday. At day break we walked over the Eads Bridge, again, and explored downtown St. Louis. It started raining soon after we left the RV, but he pressed on, questioning my sanity with only an occasional glance, as if to make sure I noticed.
Across Locust from the Main Library we found a small dog park with a man and his dog -- a female about twice Bigun's size, playing ball. I asked if we might join them and he agreed, but the dogs had only a brief interest in one another. Bigun sat at my feet following his inspection. We moved on.
My pedometer registered 3.74 miles by the time we returned. Within two hours, he was ready to go again -- all wound up with no place to use the energy.
DH and I took his ball and him over to an unoccupied section of the RV park (fenced), and tossed the ball between us. For some reason, he will fetch inside the RV, but outside he takes the ball off to the grass and then goes sniffing.
We managed to get him tired out, again, for another few hours, and later on I took him for a brief stroll around the park.
At least five miles of walking and he was still ready for more. Our female, Ritz, is too old and grumpy to play with him, so it's left to me. At this rate, he's not only my "Guru" but also my Personal Trainer!
In one more week he will have been with us for two months. He's becoming his own dog, with the puppy energy, and our relationship has matured. I enjoyed his puppy days, but I am liking these adolescent, pre-adult days, too. Those calm, adult days are only a bright glimmer on the horizon -- as all future expectations.
Another month, and we'll be shopping for his vet to perform the neutering. Hopefully, that will be the end of vet bills for a spell!!
And that's how things are with my Bigun boy, the smartest dog in my whole, wide world!
