Thinking of moving to SoCal...
Posted 10-09-2008 at 01:26 PM by Bored09
I'm 21, with a 3 year old, and getting married. I live in the harrisburg PA area near carlisle, and just generally bored with the area, climate, opportunities etc. I want to move to Southern California simply because I want to start over in a beautiful setting, everyone keeps telling me not to, it's too expensive, weather dangers etc. Anyone have any suggestions? Now I'm in the state of mind that I just want to do it, but don't want to make a bad decision for my family....

I moved to San Diego County from the north east when I retired.....for the first year, I really liked it.....and then I spent the next 5 years trying to get back. I finally made it back to New England six months ago.
Many people like the south west...I didn't. The park-like setting only exists where there is irrigation....otherwise it is and is supposed to be, a desert. That creates an atmosphere of artificiality. It is also very crowded, houses are packed into little areas, tiny yards, and HMO telling you what color you can paint your house, when to paint, when to mow, even ratio of paved hard scape to lawn and please....no cloth lines. Like I say I found So. California to be congested, and artificial. The climate is near ideal....almost all year....except there isnt any rain. Everything that isnt watered is brown and looks dead almost all year.....dusty.....and if you are 20 miles inland.....it is HOT!
I didnt like it! You might. I also missed connection to neighborhood and locale........I never once.....not one day....felt like I belonged there.Posted 10-10-2008 at 03:58 AM by elston -
If not Socal, where?
Ok, so maybe not southern Cali, but anyone have any other suggestions of a coastal town, with a moderately warm temp. and good housing prices, affordable, etc.?? Thanks!Posted 10-13-2008 at 10:55 AM by Bored09 -
Why not post your question(s) in the California forum for better results and more feedback?
